Regina Mater: A Beautiful Place to Learn

A Structured Elementary Environment for Intentional Homeschooling Families

Guided instruction paired with meaningful home schooling — for children to grow in attention, responsibility, Holiness, and joy.

Homeschooling Should Not Be a Solo Journey

Can you homeschool on your own? Absolutely! A typical homeschool parent draws from a variety of partners and institutions. Regina Mater offers partnership for core curriculum and faith formation. It’s a place for true friendship to grow.

A Beautiful Place to Learn

What makes Regina Mater distinctive? We strive to reflect the sacramental order in which grace builds upon nature, and all creation serves as an icon of the Triune God. Therefore, there are no false divisions between sacred and secular, natural and supernatural, “for Christ is all and in all.” Our pursuit of the truth in any discipline ultimately opens to Truth itself. We take seriously the Church’s teaching that parents are primary educators of their children, and build our program around honoring those sacred duties and obligations.

Joyful Catholic Culture

Our Catholic Faith is the heart and soul of all we do. We celebrate the liturgical year, lives of the saints, and intellectual tradition of the Church in an atmosphere of childlike joy.

Integral Academics

Our curriculum draws from enduring traditions such as Maria Montessori, Charlotte Mason, and classical liberal arts to build the habit of attention, attune the soul to beauty, and love what is good.

Homeschool Partnership

Homeschool days are designed for the home - not “school at home.” We balance structure and accountability with the freedom to individualize. Classroom days focus on high-engagement, interactive lessons such as labs, seminars, academic coaching, recitations, plays, art, and more.

Care for Community

Community life is intentional and supported. We come together regularly for feast days and family potlucks. The children often participate in similar extracurricular activities in the wider homeschool world.

Learning in Bethlehem and Nazareth

In our early and later elementary courses—named Bethlehem and Nazareth—students read living books, orally narrate, and build understanding through dialogue, hands-on projects, and deliberate practice. We provide a rich, prepared environment for collaborative learning.

The Two Books

With the Catholic tradition, we place “the two books” at the heart of education: Sacred Scripture and the book of nature. Elementary education concerns the start of lifelong project in “reading” these two books, employing all the arts of language and number, imitation and poetic knowledge.

Living Books

Our literary education starts and ends with Sacred Scripture. We continue with classic children’s poetry and fiction, science narratives, biographies, and lives of the saints.

Oral Narration, not “comprehension questions”

Oral narration is fundamental to the elementary environment. Students train their attention and imitate author language through focused listening, and later individual reading. Written narration begins in the later elementary years, after oral habits are firmly established. Oral narration has been shown to be vastly superior to typical textbook “comprehension questions” or workbooks.

Hands-On Projects and Fine Art

Bethlehem students work on various handicrafts and fine art related to their literature and history. Nazareth students begin formal drawing lessons. We observe great works of art and classical composers.

Living Math

Parents choose a home curriculum for math. In school, we work on math facts mastery, games, and problem solving.
